At Purradox Sphynxery, kitten care protocols are essential in raising our Sphynx kittens with the best care possible, ensuring they are healthy, well-adjusted, and ready for their forever homes. Here’s an in-depth look at our process:

Feeding

Feeding is an essential kitten care protocol. We feed our kittens Hill’s Science Diet, which is formulated to meet the nutritional needs of growing kittens. In addition to dry kibble, we offer wet food several times a day to ensure they are getting plenty of moisture and balanced nutrients. Water is always available through stainless steel bowls and water fountains, as hydration is key for a healthy cat.

Warm, Cozy Spaces

Kitten Care Process: Warmth and Comfort

Another kitten care protocol is warmth and comfort, especially for a naked cat! Our kittens always have a warm place to sleep. We provide blankets, heated beds, and furry self-warming beds. Keeping them warm is especially important since Sphynx cats are hairless and can easily get cold. These cozy spaces ensure they are comfortable and happy.

Litter Training

We begin litter training with a traditional litterbox using non-clumping litter. Since kittens sometimes ingest litter while they are young, non-clumping litter prevents intestinal blockages. As they age, we transition them to Tidy Cats Clumping Litter. By the time our kittens reach 2.5 lbs, we introduce them to the Litter Robot so they can become familiar with it before going home. For more information check out our Litter Training Guide.

Socialization

Socialization is a critical part of our process. We handle the kittens daily, hugging and kissing them from head to toe. This close interaction helps them develop trust in humans. They also spend time with other cats, small dogs, and are exposed to normal household noises like the vacuum, dishwasher, steamer, and hair dryer. This early exposure helps them become well-adjusted pets.

Vaccination Protocol

We follow a strict vaccination schedule to ensure our kittens are healthy and protected. Kittens receive vaccines at 9, 12, and 15 weeks. We use a combination of Trufel-killed and Trufel Hybrid vaccines depending on each kitten’s sensitivities. Rabies vaccines are administered at 12 weeks. Learn about our Sphynx Vaccination Schedule.

Spaying and Neutering

Spaying and Neutering is an essential kitten care protocol to prevent backyard breeding and protect our Sphynx kittens. We perform early spay/neuter procedures on all of our kittens, but we ensure they reach a minimum weight of 3 lbs before surgery. We prefer for them to be a bit larger, as this makes the procedure safer. This ensures that our kittens are ready for life as healthy, happy pets by the time they go to their new homes.

Supplementing for Nursing Moms and Kittens

To support our nursing moms and growing kittens, we use Kitty Bloom products. These supplements provide additional nutrients, helping ensure that both mom and babies stay strong and healthy during this crucial growth period.

By the time our kittens leave Purradox Sphynxery, they are fully prepared for their new homes. They have been fed a healthy diet, socialized, and litter trained, and they have received their vaccinations and spay/neuter surgery. We are committed to raising kittens that are healthy, well-socialized, and ready to become cherished members of their new families.
