Why We Created This FAQ Page

We understand that choosing the right cat for your family is a personal and often overwhelming decision. As a reputable breeder and advocate for the Sphynx breed, we are dedicated to transparency, education, and ethical practices. Our FAQ page is meant to be a resource for anyone curious about these unique and loving cats. Whether you’re considering adopting from Purradox Sphynxery or are simply a fan of hairless breeds, our goal is to provide accurate and up-to-date information to help you care for your cat with confidence.

Adoption Process

Adopting a Sphynx kitten from Purradox Sphynxery is a thoughtful, guided experience designed to match you with the perfect companion. Start by filling out our kitten application form. Once approved, you'll receive an invitation to join our Priority Member Zone, giving you early access to available litters. After choosing your kitten, a deposit reserves them for you. You’ll receive regular updates, photos, and guidance until go-home day at 14–16 weeks. Learn more on our Adoption Process Page.

To apply, simply visit our Kitten Application page. This helps us ensure our kittens go to loving, prepared homes. We review applications within 48–72 hours. Approved applicants receive detailed next steps, including access to the Priority Member Zone and information on available kittens.

Yes. Once you're approved and have chosen your kitten, a non-refundable 30% deposit is required to reserve them. This ensures we hold the kitten just for you and prevents others from claiming them. Deposits are applied to the final adoption fee. Details are available on our kitten pricing and adoption page.

Our Priority Member Zone is an exclusive page for pre-approved adopters who have paid a $100 priority list fee. Members see litters before anyone else, get early-pick access, and receive special updates. You can learn how to join here. Past adopters receive lifetime access at no charge.

Our Sphynx kittens range from $2,500 to $4,000 depending on the program: Signature, Prestige, or Elite. Prices vary based on features like eye color, body type, and rarity. All kittens come spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and fully health-checked. Explore our Pricing Page to understand what each program includes.

Yes. Every kitten is spayed or neutered before adoption unless otherwise discussed for special contracts through Spay Secure. We perform the procedure when kittens reach a safe weight, typically around 3–4 lbs. This policy aligns with our commitment to responsible, ethical breeding. Kittens are typically sent home 1 to 2 weeks after surgery so they can fully recover.

Kittens go home between 14 and 16 weeks of age, ensuring they're fully weaned, vaccinated, socialized, and vet-cleared. We prioritize your kitten’s health and development. You’ll be given a go-home date once your kitten reaches milestones in weight and behavior. More details are in our Go-Home Guide.

Every Purradox kitten goes home with: 2+ FVRCP vaccines, microchip, deworming, spay/neuter, nail trim, bath, ear cleaning, health certificate, vet paperwork, and a curated goody bag with food samples, a toy, an outfit or blanket. We also include a printed care guide, birth certificate, pedigree lineage and lifetime breeder support.

At this time, in-person visits are limited to protect the health and well-being of our kittens and adults. Approved adopters may be offered private appointments depending on timing and safety. We provide frequent photos, videos, and updates weekly to help you feel connected and watch your kitten grow. Read more about our policy here.

You’ll receive a detailed Go-Home Guide, health records, and lifetime support from us. We recommend annual HCM scans, regular dental care, weekly ear cleaning and bi-weekly to monthly baths. We also provide resources through our Post-Adoption Resource Center to help with diet, grooming, and behavior. You're not just adopting a kitten — you’re joining the Purradox family.

Health and Vaccinations

Our kittens receive a minimum of two FVRCP vaccines before adoption. These are administered around 9 and 12 weeks, using Trufel-killed or Trufel hybrid vaccines. We also provide a rabies vaccine at 12 weeks if the kitten is large enough. All vaccinations follow a safe, vet-recommended protocol. Read more in our Sphynx Vaccination Guide. We encourage core vaccines only and do not recommend vaccinating for FeLV or FIP.

Yes, our kittens are vaccinated for rabies around 12 weeks of age when they’ve reached an appropriate weight. This is done by a licensed veterinarian and included in their veterinary paperwork. Some states, like Georgia, require rabies by law — we ensure your kitten is travel-ready.

Yes, all of our Kings and Queens are tested through Wisdom Panel’s Optimal Selection, screening for 40+ genetic conditions. While we previously included HCM DNA testing, we now only focus on annual HCM screenings via certified cardiologists, as many recent studies have discredited the ALMS1 gene being linked to HCM in Sphynx cats . See our Kings & Queens Health Protocols.

HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) is a heart condition that affects Sphynx cats. We perform annual HCM scans through certified veterinary cardiologists. These echocardiograms help us monitor heart health proactively. Buyers are encouraged to continue annual scans with a specialist. Learn more in our HCM Blog.

All of our breeding cats are tested and confirmed FIV/FeLV negative before entering our program. This ensures that no kittens are exposed or carry these viruses. Routine testing and responsible breeding practices are part of our health guarantee.

Absolutely. We follow a deworming protocol beginning at 4 weeks of age and repeat as needed through go-home day. Our kittens are treated for roundworms, hookworms, and common parasites. All deworming medications are vet-approved.

Yes, every kitten is microchipped before adoption. The chip is registered with the adopter's information at the time of transfer. This provides lifelong identification and security in case your kitten is ever lost.

You’ll receive a health certificate, vaccination record, deworming history, rabies certificate, microchip registration, and proof of spay/neuter. These documents are provided in your go-home folder and are recognized by vets and airlines alike.

Schedule your first vet check within 48-72 hours of arrival. Continue their vaccination series if needed, and establish a schedule for annual HCM scans, dental cleanings, and regular hygiene (baths, nail trims, ear cleanings). Our Post-Adoption Health Guide offers detailed care tips.

Yes. All Purradox Sphynxery kittens come with a comprehensive health guarantee covering congenital defects. We stand behind our breeding practices and vet care. Details are outlined in our Adoption Contract, which you’ll review before placing a deposit.

Sphynx Kitten Care

Your essentials should include: Hill’s Science Diet Kitten food (wet & dry), stainless steel bowls, a water fountain, self-warming bed or heating pad, nail clippers, antimicrobial shampoo, ear wipes, and a soft outfit. Our Amazon Supply Checklist has everything you need with direct links.

We start kittens with non-clumping litter and a regular box, then transition them to Tidy Cats clumping litter and the Litter Robot 4 once they’re about 2.5 lbs. You may use a traditional box or continue with a Litter Robot 4 at home. We recommend stainless steel boxes for hygiene.

Our kittens are fed Hill’s Science Diet Kitten kibble and receive wet food multiple times daily. Fresh water is always available via a filtered fountain. You can find our feeding schedule and brand recommendations in the Kitten Nutrition Guide.

Yes. Because Sphynx cats are hairless, they need warmth. We use fleece blankets, heating pads, and self-warming cat beds in all kitten areas. Avoid electric heating pads with cords. Layered bedding is best for regulating body temperature.

Keep their first space small and quiet. Introduce one room at a time. Use familiar bedding, offer a routine, and provide plenty of attention. Keep dogs or other pets separate at first. See our Kitten Adjustment Tips for a full step-by-step.

Kittens eat small, frequent meals. Leave dry kibble out at all times and serve wet food 2–3 times daily. Adjust based on appetite and weight gain. Hydration is essential—use a fountain to encourage drinking. Scheduled feeding is not recommended for any kitten to prevent low blood sugar. Sphynx cats will eat more food compared to domestic cats in order to meet their higher energy needs and to keep warm.

We recommend interactive toys, tunnels, climbing trees, and even a cat exercise wheel like the One Fast Cat wheel. Mental stimulation and daily play are vital for social, happy Sphynx cats. Rotate toys weekly to avoid boredom.

Warning signs include lethargy, diarrhea, labored breathing, refusal to eat, coughing, or nasal discharge. You should schedule a wellness visit within 48-72 hours of bringing your kitten home. Trust your instincts—if something feels off, call your vet.

Yes, but we recommend sponge baths with a warm, soapy cloth unless your kitten is very dirty. Overbathing can cause excess oil. We suggest bathing only when necessary using a gentle antimicrobial/antifungal shampoo. Read our Sphynx Grooming Guide.

Always. We provide lifetime support to our kitten families. You can reach out anytime with care questions, behavior issues, or general concerns. You’re part of the Purradox family, and we’re here to help. Bookmark our Next Steps Guide for resources and videos.

Cost of Owning A Sphynx

Our kittens range from $2,500 to $4,000, depending on the program: Signature, Prestige, or Elite. Pricing reflects lineage, body type, eye color (e.g., DBE), and other premium features. Each kitten comes fully vetted, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Learn more on our Pricing Page.

Sphynx cats are a luxury pet and require intensive health testing, ethical breeding, and specialized care every year. At Purradox, our adults undergo Optimal Selection genetic screening, annual HCM scans, and are raised on premium nutrition. Each kitten is carefully socialized and goes home with a complete care package.

Yes. New owners should budget for food, litter, regular veterinary visits, vaccinations, and occasional medications. Common startup items include: heating beds, outfits, grooming supplies, and a water fountain. Visit our Supply Checklist with discount links to budget smartly.

Expect to spend $30–$60 per month depending on the food type and quality. We recommend Hill’s Science Diet Kitten and include starter samples. Wet food adds to cost but provides vital hydration. Budget higher if feeding raw or specialty diets.

Not necessarily, but some procedures (like annual HCM scans) are unique to the breed and cost $300–$500 annually. Regular checkups, dental cleanings, and vaccinations are standard. Their lack of fur does not increase vet costs, but it requires you to monitor skin health closely. The Global HCM Group on Facebook is a good resource for low cost HCM clinics by a Veterinary Cardiologist.

We provide a health guarantee against congenital conditions. Pet insurance is not included, but we strongly recommend providers like Trupanion or Healthy Paws. Insurance can offset future emergency or specialty care costs. Trupanion offers a 30 day free trial starting the day you take home your pet. Click here to set it up.

Your Sphynx kitten will need routine care: annual wellness exams, vaccines, and annual HCM heart scans. Regular dental cleanings are highly recommended. Because of their active and curious nature, accident-related vet visits can happen, so an emergency fund is helpful.

Yes! Sphynx cats get cold easily. We recommend soft outfits for chilly days and fleece blankets or heated beds for naps. Clothes are not just cute—they’re practical. You can find our favorite products in the Kitten Comfort Guide.

Yes. Kittens with rare colors like chocolate, lilac, calico, or dominant blue/odd eyes (DBE) are usually priced in the Prestige or Elite range due to rarity and genetic exclusivity. Learn more on our Breeding Programs Page.
