🔬 1. FIV/FeLV Testing: A Non-Negotiable Start
Every Purradox King and Queen is tested negative for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) before entering our breeding program.

- 🗓 Frequency: Once before breeding; retested if risk exposure occurs
- ✅ Why it matters: These viruses are contagious and can be life-shortening
🧬 2. DNA & Genetic Screening
We use breed-appropriate DNA screening as one part of our health program. DNA panels can provide information about inherited disease variants, blood type, coat-color genetics, and other traits, but they do not replace veterinary screening or HCM echocardiograms.

🩻 3. Annual HCM Heart Scans by a Veterinary Cardiologist
We believe that Sphynx breeders must be proactive, not reactive.

- 🔁 Frequency: Yearly for every active breeder
- ✅ Why: HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) is the most common heart condition in Sphynx cats
💡 Note: HCM cannot be reliably ruled in or ruled out with a routine DNA panel alone. We use echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound) for HCM screening because it directly evaluates heart structure and function. A normal scan is still a snapshot in time, which is why repeated screening matters.
📋 4. Veterinary Health Checks & Certificates
Every kitten at Purradox receives multiple wellness checks throughout their development. Before going home, they are issued a Veterinary Health Certificate, confirming:
- Normal growth and vitals
- No visible illness or congenital defects
- Vaccination and deworming status
We only work with licensed veterinarians who understand the Sphynx breed’s specific needs.
💉 5. Vaccination Protocols
Our kittens are vaccinated with TruFel killed and hybrid vaccines at:
- 9 weeks
- 12 weeks
- 15 weeks
- Rabies at 12 weeks, when weight-appropriate
This schedule ensures full protection before your kitten ever leaves our care.

🦷 6. Biannual Dental Cleanings for Breeding Cats
Sphynx cats are prone to periodontal disease, so we perform dental cleanings twice a year on all breeding cats.

🧴 7. Routine Skin, Ear & Nail Care Evaluations
Our cats are evaluated weekly for:
- Skin conditions (acne, rashes, etc.)
- Ear hygiene (wax buildup, infections)
- Nail overgrowth or inflammation
